She represented, unequivocally, a quintessential Britain; always much more than the dictionary definition of ‘Queen’ - ‘The female ruler of an independent state,’ rather, she was the personification of the ultimate matriarch, to her citizens throughout the world, her family, and to us, as homeopaths, so deep was her conviction to homeopathy. Undeterred by the ignorance of the detractors, firm in her knowledge of the power of the remedies, she became a motivating force for students, and a shining example of radiant health, for much of her life. Her strong association with The Faculty of Homeopathy has left many of us deeply saddened, yet full of gratitude for her life, much of which she shared with some of our colleagues, as her physician, pharmacist, or simply, friend.
Her longevity is as ever, probably due to a multitude of factors, but certainly not least her lifelong love of homeopathic medicine. Whenever she travelled, it was always with her remedies. As we know, she had many eminent homeopathic physicians throughout her life, from Sir John Weir to Dr Peter Fisher. Her dedication and support of both homeopathy and us as a Faculty, was never clearer than when she attended The Faculty of Homeopathy’s Congress at The Guildhall, in London in 1970. This was a wonderful demonstration of the superb relationship between the Queen and her then homeopathic physician, Dr Margery Blackie.
It is no surprise that the Queen chose homeopathy and we will always treasure her advocacy. I recently mentioned in Simile, for her Platinum Jubilee, that homeopathy is “as a therapy unique, refined and gentle, yet dynamically powerful, not unlike the Queen herself; tailored to one’s unique constitution, exclusive and deeply personal, certainly not a one size fits all approach to health management.” I feel this is as relevant as ever, at this sad time and honours our relationship with her. We are profoundly grateful for the support of The Former Prince of Wales, as Patron of The Faculty of Homeopathy and wish him and the entire Royal family every strength and comfort at this sad time. His mother’s light will forever be an inspirational, guiding force for all who have encountered her presence in this world.
We include here a tribute from our President Dr Gary Smyth, which shows his deep respect for The Queen and her long association with The Faculty, whilst commending her commitment and duty to our country. Tony Pinkus, our Pharmacy Dean gives a beautiful insight into The Queen’s life from his own perspective as a Royal Warrant Holder at Ainsworths Homeopathic Pharmacy. Through his own contact and visits to Buckingham Palace, he experienced first-hand, how, despite her uniquely privileged lifestyle, she was as vulnerable and human as the rest of us.
